Two lifelong friends, Sarah and Harriet, face personal crisis when their respective husbands die within weeks of each other. Sarah starts a business and begins a tentative relationship with an old friend. Harriet discovers she's not as well off financially as she thought, and that a handsome young accountant is using her. The widows quarrel, and are reconciled only with the knowledge that one of them needs the support of the other.
